Before confronting Frisk in the Last Corridor, he trained with Gaster for some time, learning how to use a new ability: Orange bones. Sans swore on his last breath that he would kill and put a stop to the human, no matter the cost, even if it killed him. Sans was skeptical at first, but then Gaster resurfaced past the Genocide timelines to make him realize that he was telling the truth.
